Report on green movie festival Ecocup / Festival

  • Place:

The first Moscow festival of ecological films EcoCup was held on February 24th- 28th.

These days in ExLibris Café and Space “Nauka254″ six ecofilms were shown (three of them first introduced in Russia) and two special days – “Reserves day” and Eco-Architecture with Green Building Council were intruced. The day of Eco-Architecture launched by viewing of the Belgian film “Last call for planet Earth” and live dialogue with its director – Special Guest of the Festival – Jacques Allard. Jacques believes that 90% of the buildings can be made greener. It is necessary to motivate architects to work not only with new projects, but also to improve the old buildings, especially in Russia. After all it is not necessary to invent new materials and it is enough to improve heat-saving and ventilation in existing buildings.

There followed a question whether it is possible to unify the project. The European expert gave a very successful Hungarian example, when it was built an apartment house with a new heat-saving technologies ( “If you cannot measure – you cannot control. In new technology this law has been considered”). Residents of this house were very happy and began to invest in the development of the project.

Russian experience was presented by “green building’s experts” as the organizers said. Ksenia Agapova, marketing director of RuGBC gave heat-saving examples of the buildings in Odintsovo and in the north of Moscow.

The second speaker of Eco-Architecture Day was editor-in-chief, architectural critic and expert on ecological architecture and construction of the first online Russian magazine on environmental architecture EKA.ru Lara Kopylova. Opening remarks what is Eco-Architecture the impressive overview of the world’s environmental offices, homes was given even with Russian ecobuildings: the village Ivakino-Pokrovskoe, garages of Rustam Kerimov and the ecohouse project of WWF.

The final and culmination was a speech of Ksenia Agapova “Magic of green building” and it is:

  • story but more a reminder of the need for economical and reuse of resources, separate waste collection, recovery areas and minimize human impacts to the health of the planet as a whole and humanity in particular,
  • presentation of the structure, principles and objectives of the Green Building Council in Russia and in the world,
  • coverage of the principles of ecological and economic profitability of green building,
  • familiarity with the environmental assessment methods for buildings (LEED, BREAM),
  • estimation of competitive ecoprojects by young architects, presentation of the winning project.

The interest was aroused by the projects of young architects: building “Termitnik”, projected to Rio de Janeiro, a high-rise green building with issues in accessibility, social use and construction, but with great design and a project for a real Russian winter – the building with heat-saving by snow in winter. However, in the second case there are many questions about durability, repairing and thermo-climatic condition conditions inside the building.

After such a detailed and diverse communication the discussion was focused on the applicability of foreign techniques and building materials in Russia with our climatic conditions.

It is joyfull that Eco-Architecture touches so many hearts and minds.

We are looking forward to welcome you in RuGBC.
