15.09.09 RICS to value sustainability
15th of September 2009 RICS issus Information Paper on Sustainability and Commercial Property Valuation. The paper aims to heighten awareness and therefore valuers' working knowledge of sustainability in order to further advance awareness of its potential to impact on the valuation process. The paper outlines ways in which sustainability can be defined; how a building's green credentials may be assessed and how such characteristics might be reflected within a valuation – whether that be quantitatively or qualitatively. Sustainable characteristics which are highlighted in the paper include the build quality and life cycle, the type of building materials used, the health and human performance of a building, building services such as air-conditioning, energy efficiency, waste management as well as location and accessibility considerations and the impact of regulation, tax and financial incentives. For all property market players it is an important step towards embedding sustainability as a core consideration in the valuation process. Read more
14.09.09 Sochi 2014 greening – challenges and opportunities
"The Olympic games without climate change" was the topic of a seminar on 11th of September in the RIAN press-center. The event was organized by the Ecological Supervision Board of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme. The Olympic team invited the best experts in climate change, ecology and games organization to brainstorm possible sustainable solutions for mitigation and offsetting of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions resulting from the Games. RuGBC members were invited to join the group and input their expertise in possible emissions mitigation actions available through sustainable construction. Read full report
10.09.09 BRE Global & Russian Green Building Council sign letter of intent for BREEAM in Russia
BRE Global has signed an agreement with the Russian Green Building Council for the adoption of BREEAM. The agreement will accelerate the development of BREEAM for the Russian market. Martin Townsend, Director of BREEAM, said: "We are excited about the prospect of working with the Russian Green Building Council and a wide range of stakeholders to develop a national standard based on our knowledge and experience of increasing the sustainability of buildings. The wealth of experience we have gained in other markets will help the Council to increase the uptake of sustainable buildings and show the great flexibility of BREEAM to a wide range of markets." 07.09.09 Launch of Russian Green Building Council during Pro-estate forum
Program of PROEstate 2009 included briefing «Green estate: new solutions for traditional Russian construction industry. Perspectives of implementation of national ecological standards». During the briefing participants signed 2 agreements on strategic partnership between ANO "Green buildings of motherland" and RuGBC and BRE and RuGBC. Read more
25.08.09 Moscow roofs become green
Green lawns were developed on a roof of one of the New Arbat's buildings. Total area of green roof is more than 2 700 sqm. The incentive was encouraged by the local administration who targets reduction of emissions levels in the center of Moscow. Read more
